Some movies have the power to influence our thoughts and persuade us to travel to the destinations featured in them. Our favorite type of movies are movies inspired by traveling. These movies are filled with locations from around the world, and after we watch them, we want to pack a suitcase, buy a one-way ticket, and go explore.
Here are a few of our favorite travel movies of all time:
Wild is an adventure film based on a woman’s journey of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. If you are looking for a movie around finding yourself in an adventure, then this is the movie for you. The movie goes through the main character’s self-discovery during her trip – which is why most people enjoy solo travel.
Midnight in Paris
You have never seen Paris like this before. In Midnight in Paris, the main character is transported to Paris in the 1920s. To make a great travel movie in our opinion, it has to make you want to pack your bags and travel to the destination or journey in the film, and that is exactly what this movie does.
Eat Pray Love
Eat Pray Love is a feel-good travel movie that follows the main character’s journey of finding herself while traveling the world. It seems that all great travel movies involve self-development while traveling, and that shows just how impactful travel can be in one’s life.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Who doesn’t love a good adventure movie? The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a film that follows the main character Walter’s journey of a lifetime around the world. Walter embarks on adventures that are out of a normal person’s comfort zone but are perfect for the adrenaline junkie. If you are an adventure seeker in life, you will feel inspired by this great travel movie.
The Bucket List
The Bucket List is a movie that will inspire you to live life to its fullest and enjoy every opportunity that you get. The movie is a story based on two elderly men who have been diagnosed with cancer, and only have a short period left of their life to live. Many people have coined the term ‘bucket list’ into making an actual list of places they want to go, and things they want to do in their life. If you haven’t created one yet, you should. Include all of the wonderful cities, destinations, and excursions that you want to do in life and start crossing stuff off!
Julie & Julia
Based on a true story of the lives of two women who share the same passion for food, Julie & Julia transports us to both New York City and Paris. The movie is based off of a book written by Julie Powell, a woman who blogs her way through Julia Child’s cookbook. Julia Child had a passion for Paris, and French cooking, that makes us want to go on a culinary tour of the city with a glass of wine in hand.
Into the Wild
Have you ever thought about completely starting over in life? Into the Wild follows the story of a young college graduate who gives up everything in his life: money, his car, and his identity while he travels throughout America. Throughout the movie he is working on himself and his character.
Sometimes the best travel movies are not based on travel itself, but on a destination. The one thing that makes all of these travel movies so great is that they inspire a sense of wanderlust. What is your favorite travel movie?
